In the journey of healing from childhood abuse, trauma, or surviving narcissistic relationships, it is essential to harness the inner strength and resources that lie within us. People have all the resources that they need to make the changes that they want, and if they don’t seem to have those resources, they do have the ability to create them. There are no unresourceful people, only unresourceful states. This NLP presupposition is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the untapped potential within us all.
Understanding the NLP Presupposition
NLP presuppositions are foundational beliefs that shape the way we perceive and interact with the world. The presupposition we're exploring today suggests that every person, including those who have endured the most profound hardships, possesses the inner resources required for personal growth and change. This empowering belief challenges the notion of helplessness and encourages a mindset of empowerment.
Resourcefulness in the Face of Adversity
Survivors of childhood abuse, trauma, and/or narcissistic relationships often feel drained, depleted, incapable of change and overwhelmed with guilt and shame. This NLP presupposition confronts this feeling by emphasizing the idea that you possess the inner resources to transform your life. It recognizes that the trauma may have temporarily obscured these resources, but they are still there, waiting to be harnessed.
The Inner Resources:
Resilience: Your ability to endure and overcome difficult circumstances is a testament to your innate resilience. This resource is always present, even if it feels buried beneath layers of pain.
Self-awareness: Your capacity for self-reflection is a powerful tool. By understanding your emotions, triggers, and thought patterns, you can gain control over your responses to trauma triggers.
Empathy and Support: The connections you have with others can be your source of strength. Seek support from friends, family, or others to reinforce your healing journey.
Creativity: You can create new coping mechanisms, strategies, and solutions to challenges you encounter. Your creative mind can help you adapt and thrive. For generations, people have turned to the creative process to help them navigate healing, whether that be hands on arts and crafts or creating music through writing or playing instruments.
Courage: Courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to confront it. Survivors possess the courage to face their past and embark on a path to recovery. "Everything you've ever wanted is on the other side of fear." - George Adair
Transcending Unresourceful States
This presupposition also addresses "unresourceful states." Survivors often find themselves in states of anxiety, depression, self-doubt, or helplessness. NLP encourages you to recognize that these states are not permanent and that you can transform them into more resourceful states.
Techniques such as reframing, anchoring, and visualization, commonly used in NLP, can help survivors shift from unresourceful states to resourceful ones. By altering your perception and thought patterns, you can regain control over your emotions and reactions.
Harnessing the Power of NLP in Healing
NLP offers valuable tools and strategies for survivors of childhood abuse, trauma, and narcissistic relationships:
Anchoring: Create positive anchors to trigger resourceful states when needed. This can help you regain a sense of control even in the most difficult moments.
Reframing: Transform negative thought patterns into empowering beliefs. Reframing can help you see your past experiences in a new light and encourages healing.
Visualization: Use the power of visualization to see yourself as the strong, resilient person you are becoming. This can be a powerful motivator on your journey to recovery.
Remembering that you have all the resources that you need to make the changes that you want serves as a beacon of hope and empowerment. It reminds you that you have the strength and capacity for healing and transformation within you, waiting to be unearthed.
Remember that healing is a process, and it's okay to seek professional support on your journey. With NLP techniques and this empowering presupposition, you can navigate the path towards recovery, resilience, healing and ultimately, a brighter future. You are not a victim of your past; you are a survivor with the potential for a powerful and fulfilling life.
My Favorite Things!
In this edition of 'My Favorite Things,' I have a small change in store that's well worth your attention. I've stumbled upon a powerful and wonderful new practice, coupled with an essential oil blend, that deserves more than just a brief mention. Let's delve into the remarkable synergy of the practice of Shinrin Yoku and essential oil by the same name in our next highlight.
The Healing Power of Nature: Shinrin Yoku and Your
Resilience
Amid the journey of healing from trauma and adversity, nature can play a profound role in rejuvenating your spirit and connecting you to your inner resources. One practice that beautifully complements the NLP presupposition we explored earlier is "Shinrin Yoku" or Forest Bathing. This ancient Japanese practice involves immersing yourself in the healing embrace of the forest, and when combined with essential oils, it can be a powerful tool in your healing toolkit.
Shinrin Yoku and Your Inner Resources
Shinrin Yoku is not just about being in nature; it's a mindful and meditative practice that encourages you to be present in the moment. When you walk among the trees, breathe in the fresh forest air, and absorb the tranquil sounds of nature, you are connecting with your inner resources in a unique way:
Stress Reduction: Disengage from normal life. Forest Bathing has been proven to reduce stress levels, promoting a sense of calm and mental clarity. This can help you manage the emotional aftermath of trauma and abuse more effectively.
Emotional Healing: The healing aromas of essential oils derived from the forest, like Siberian Fir and Cypress, can invoke a sense of security and peace. They enhance the emotional healing process by grounding you in the present moment and evoking positive memories.
Self-Reflection: In the quiet solitude of the forest, you can reflect on your experiences and your journey towards recovery. This self-reflection is a vital component of recognizing and harnessing your inner strength.
Renewed Resilience: Shinrin Yoku and essential oils work in harmony to rejuvenate your resilience. They help you tap into your inner resources and encourage the growth and transformation you desire.
Incorporating Shinrin Yoku into Your Healing Journey
To incorporate the practice of Shinrin Yoku into your healing process, consider the following steps:
Find a Peaceful Forest: Seek out a nearby forest or natural area where you can immerse yourself in nature. It doesn't have to be a vast wilderness; even a wooded park can work wonders. It can be beneficial to think of several areas you can visit being mindful to have at least one close to home.
Mindful Walks & Peaceful Being: Prior to embarking on your forest bathing journey, be sure to disengage from your daily routine. Turn off any electronics (or at least mute the notifications) that can pull you away from your time of grounding. Emails, texts and phone calls during this time are nothing more than a distraction from this much needed time for you to be your only priority.
While forest bathing, walk slowly and deliberately. Take moments to meditate or simply sit quietly in contemplation. Allow your thoughts and feelings to flow naturally, acknowledging them without judgment. Pay attention to the sights, sounds, and scents of the forest. Touch the trees, and leaves and even allow your feet to touch the earth. Engage all your senses. Be sure to take in slow, deep, deliberate and focused breaths and, on the exhale, envision the stress that has found its home in your body finally leaving. Feel it as it exits every cell in your body and returns to earth. Take as much time as you need.
The Benefits of Essential Oils: Enhance your experience with essential oils. Use a diffuser or carry a small vial of forest-scented essential oil with you to connect more deeply with the natural surroundings. The newly released Shinrin Yoku Essential Oil by doTERRA is my new favorite! What excites me the most about this Essential Oil Blend is the research-backed evidence indicating that diffusing this oil can offer the same advantages as engaging in the Shinrin Yoku practice, all while enjoying these benefits in the comfort of your own space, especially during the chilly winter months.
Transition Back to Normal Life: As you are leaving the wooded area to return to your normal life, ask yourself reflective questions. What am I going to bring back to the world from this experience? What has this time taught me or revealed to me? How will I change because of this experience? How will I stay the same? How can I be more like the trees around me and remain deeply rooted in my own personal integrity and yet sway with the winds of change?
Repeat Often: Regularly practice Shinrin Yoku to build a deep and ongoing connection with nature and your inner resources and incorporate diffusing the oil during times when escaping to the woods is not a viable option.
Incorporating Shinrin Yoku into your journey of healing and self-discovery can amplify your resilience and connection with your inner resources, reinforcing the belief that you already possess everything you need to overcome your past and create a brighter future.
This highlight section integrates the healing practice of Shinrin Yoku and essential oils with the NLP presupposition, emphasizing their combined potential to empower your healing journey.
